The Lost Art That Will Set You Apart in 2025

Olga’s Note
Dear Ladies,
Welcome to Issue 13 of The Elegance Edit – your weekly guide to body language, elegance, and timeless style. Each edition offers thoughtful insights to help you feel more poised, confident, and graceful in every part of your life.
This week, we’re talking about gratitude. This topic invites many different angles, but we’ll specifically be focusing on how to give gratitude to those around you, how to send thank you notes, when to send them, and what to say.
Giving Thanks
Saying Thank You Like a Lady
In our age of instant everything, the handwritten thank-you note has become almost revolutionary. While others fire off quick texts or emoji-filled messages, the woman who understands true elegance reaches for her pen and creates something lasting.
This isn't about being old-fashioned or impractical. It's about recognizing that how you express gratitude reveals everything about your character and your understanding of human connection.
In the age of AI, we’ve convinced ourselves that faster = better. But gratitude isn't a task to be checked off, it’s an opportunity to strengthen relationships and demonstrate the sophistication that sets you apart.
A thank-you text arrives and disappears into the digital ether. A handwritten note sits on someone's desk or gets tucked into their journal and becomes a tangible reminder of your thoughtfulness.
The Architecture of Appreciation
True gratitude requires structure and the kind of attention to detail that our hurried culture has largely abandoned. In last week’s Elegance Game we asked what would be the more elegant way to express gratitude after receiving a thoughtful gesture? The answer was C: write a handwritten note within 48 hours, mentioning specific details that show genuine appreciation.
The 48-Hour Rule Elegant gratitude operates on a specific timeline. Within 48 hours of receiving a gift, attending a dinner party, or benefiting from someone's kindness, your thank-you note should be written and mailed. Not planned, not drafted – completed. This timing shows that their gesture mattered enough to prioritize your response over your busy schedule.
The Art of Specific Acknowledgement Generic appreciation falls flat because it feels generic. "Thank you for dinner" pales beside "Thank you for the extraordinary evening – your coq au vin was perfection, and I'm still thinking about our conversation about Venetian architecture." Specific details prove you were present, engaged, and genuinely affected by their effort.
Beyond the Expected The most memorable thank-you notes go beyond acknowledging the immediate gesture to recognizing its larger impact. "Your introduction to Sarah has already led to fascinating collaboration possibilities" or "The book you recommended has completely changed how I think about leadership." This approach transforms gratitude from obligation into genuine connection.
The Professional Power of Personal Touch
In business settings, handwritten appreciation becomes a competitive advantage. While your colleagues send standard email thanks, your handwritten note to a client, mentor, or colleague demonstrates a level of sophistication that's increasingly rare.
The executive who receives a handwritten thank-you after a business lunch doesn't just remember your professionalism – they remember your character. The mentor who finds your thoughtful note after offering career advice doesn't just recall your gratitude, they will recall your potential.
Beyond Thank-You Notes
Elegant gratitude extends beyond formal acknowledgments, to the small gestures that demonstrate ongoing appreciation. The follow-up call to share how their advice worked out. The invitation that includes someone who helped you professionally. The introduction that could benefit someone who once helped you.
These actions prove that your gratitude extends beyond polite obligation to genuine recognition of others' impact on your life.
The most elegant women understand that saying thank you like a lady isn't about following rules. In our world where appreciation has become casual, your thoughtful gratitude becomes a signature of your character.

From Gesture to Signature Style
Mastering elegant gratitude is just one example of how the smallest actions can completely redefine how you’re perceived. These seemingly “minor” details, how you thank someone, how you enter a room, how you hold eye contact, become the building blocks of an unmistakable presence.
This is exactly the type of refinement we cultivate inside the Elegance Refinement Mentorship. Over eight weeks, we go beyond etiquette “rules” into the living art of elegance—how to embody poise, communicate with impact, and move through social and professional situations with unshakable confidence.
If the thought of leaving a lasting impression—through your words, your walk, your presence—excites you, this mentorship was created for you.

Olga’s Recommendations
Just a note
Invest in quality stationery – not because expensive paper makes your words more meaningful, but because the weight and texture of good stationery signals that your message deserves proper presentation. Keep a selection of note cards that reflect your personal style but remain appropriate for various occasions. These thank you note sets from Papier are affordable and can be customized according to your taste, with space to add your contact information if you wish.
Side note: Your handwriting matters too. If yours isn't naturally elegant, practice until it becomes legible and pleasant to read. The recipient should feel honored by your effort, not challenged to decipher your message.
